How do we pay and when?
The cost must be received about a week before the function, once it is received it is also a confirmation that the function will go ahead. Payment must be transferred to Spencer Barlow, and the remaining cost for all ingredients and beverages will be paid after the function is completed.
What does the price include?
The price includes the chef’s time and knowledge, it does not include any ingredients or beverages.
Who will serve the food and do the washing up?
Your chef will serve your food and explain how the dishes are made with you and your guests. Your chef does not really do the washing up, but will give a hand. If you would like a kitchen porter or a waiter service, for example to pour your wine, please let us know. There is an additional cost for this service.
Can I provide the ingredients myself?
Your chef will purchase high quality ingredients for you to make sure your meal is consistently excellent. It also ensures that everything required can be sourced. In our experience, we have found that this is the most effective way to operate, giving you one less thing to worry about, but if you would like, you may purchase your own ingredients.
I live outside of London. Can I still have a cooking lesson at home?
We generally serve only London postcodes (W, WC, E, EC, N, NW, SW, SE) but occasionally we can help if you are within the M25. There is a small extra cost.
Do you provide crockery, cutlery, glasses and linen?
Most people prefer to use their own, there is no need to go and buy everything.
What happens if I cancel?
We’ll always do our best to help if you need to reschedule or cancel your dinner party date. Our cancellation policy is:
1. Cancel at least 7 days in advance of the date booked: full refund minus a £20 administration charge.
2. Change of date or location at least 7 days in advance of the date originally booked: we will endeavour to meet your new requirements, subject to the availability of the chef. There is a £20 administration charge for this change.
3. Cancel, change date or change location less than 7 days in advance of the original date booked: we’re sorry but we cannot offer you a refund if you cancel or wish to change the date. We may be able to change the location (if the menu, date, time and number of guests remain the same), but cannot guarantee this.
What happens if I cannot cook?
That is the whole point of getting Spencer Barlow. He is there to show you and your friends how it is done but in a way that is fun and informative. He is not there to put any pressure on you whatso ever. It is all about learning and having a laugh.
