Market day experience

I received a call from a young lady saying she had just got engaged, and would like to treat her future husband with a little gift. I passed a few ideas around and we came up with a day at the market.

Miss Schmitt loved their idea as her close friend was coming to visit her from Germany, and would love me to show them all around Borough Market.

After we walked around and sampled some of the great food at the market we decided on what we were going to cook that evening and went to buy all the fresh ingredients. The only thing we did not get was the wine as I already had a few bottles of Ken Forrester’s 2007 FMC.

After a fantastic day at the market we then headed home to start putting our menu together.

We started off with a grilled vegetable salad with goat’s cheese. Mains, was pan-fried watermelon with cod and a hollandaise sauce and seasonal vegetables. For dessert we made a lovely mango compote and served that with a passion fruit sorbet.

The day was a great success and everybody enjoyed cooking the fresh food from the market.
