• Cooking with the Newtons

newtonsI used to live with the Newton family when I first joined Mosimann back in 2004, so when Claire Newton heard what I was doing she grabbed the opportunity to hire ‘Spencer Barlow’ for a evening course.

As I was never around to cook for them as housemates this was a perfect chance for me to share my passion of cooking with them.

The Newton family were keen to be creative with some desserts so I came up with an idea which I thought would be perfect for them and was immediately given the green light.

On arrival, Claire said that it would be only Andrew and herself who would be taking part but during the evening the Newton’s little one, who was supposed to be in bed, was too excited about what was going on in ‘her’ kitchen, so she toddled downstairs to give her mom and dad a hand in making the Chocolate Fondant.

claphamPaul, a designer based in Battersea, contacted me saying that he would love me to come around to cook dinner for a group of his friends and get them involved in the whole process – just what the Spencer Barlow brand is all about.

When everybody had arrived and had a glass of champagne, Paul brought his guests through to the kitchen and told them that they will be cooking their own dinner. Once they got over the initial shock of being invited to dinner but having to cook for themselves, I talked them through the menu and we soon got stuck into the real business of cooking.

In no time at all everybody was really getting involved and enjoying themselves, saying how much they had learnt as well as how much fun they had in such a short period of time. It is amazing how much fun you can have trying to teach people how to use a piping bag! The evening was a great success for both parties and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
